road above the causeway runs in two opposite directions
each being 11.6 meters wide with two lanes and a curb
for emergency parking. |

The
causeway is twenty-five kilometers in length. The
Saudi portion begins at Al-‘Aziziyyah located
south of Al-Khobar City and the Bahrain portion of
the causeway begins right from Al-Jasra west of Manama. |

The
causeway comprises of five bridges and seven embankments. |
 |

There
are (536) concrete columns beneath and along the causeway. |
 |

Roads
linking the causeway and the inland road network in
both the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of
Bahrain were constructed at the length of (32) kilometers
up to Al Khobar and Dhahran City and at the length
of (13) kilometers up to Manama City. |
The
plan for construction of the causeway and its ancillaries
included the execution of four contracts is as follows:

first contract included the construction of the causeway
and the embankments at a cost of SR 2,237 millions. |

second contract: For the construction of the border
station and buildings at a cost of SR 362 millions. |
 |

Third
Contract: For erection of the access roads and crossroads
linking the causeway to the main Saudi inland roads
network at a cost of SR 200 millions. |

Fourth
Contract: For erection of the access roads and crossroads
linking the causeway to the main roads network in
Bahrain at a cost of SR 128 millions. |

 |
Technical
and administrative supervision costs reached SR 86
millions. |

 |
Total
cost of the causeway and its ancillaries was (SR 3,013
millions) three-thousands and thirteen million Saudi
Riyals |
